The Aim

THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT

The aim of the project is to analyze the vectors of change which are determining the transformation of the regional public television, in order to find patterns and balanced solutions to guarantee this essential public service. In particular, this analysis and search for solutions will be focused on three interrelated areas:


1. In the field of public service and regulatory

The bet of the European audiovisual policy by the need to consolidate a democratic public television stable and efficient, in a context of economic crisis and extreme competition at the same time; new demands in the justification of public funding for  public television; and the need to implement new forms of governance in the audiovisual sector.


2. In the industrial area, economic and corporate

In the industrial area, economic and corporate: the impact of regional broadcasting services in the regional audiovisual; the flexibility of the possibilities of management; the pros and cons of externalisation; economic and financial viability in accordance with the regulatory framework; and the development, now at risk of slowdown, of the «connectedTV» through the cross-platform services.


3. In the area of content and audiences:

In the area of content and audiences: the innovation in the production and distribution of content in a digital environment; the new uses and social functions of the contents of public service, promoting an active citizenship and increasing the participation through social networks; the new qualitative criteria for the measurement of the audiences and the evaluation of the social value of the contents of public service; the evolution of  the contents, with special attention to those most closely linked to the concept of public service like the news and current affairs  and cultural programs.
